Fiona Apple was ridiculed by upstanding news outlets like the New Yorker for giving a profanity-laden acceptance speech for Best New Artist at the MTV Video Music Awards. "This world is bullshit, and you shouldn't model your life on what we think is cool, and what we're wearing and what we're saying," she said. Turns out that's one of the few things from 1997 that remains relevant today.
