Back to Rock the Vote: 20 Musicians Turned Politicians
John Hall
US Congress
As a founding member of pop-rock band Orleans, guitarist, singer and composer John Hall enjoyed two top-five hits, 'Dance With Me' and 'Still The One.' As a politician and environmental activist he served from 2007-2011 as the U.S. Representative for New York's 19th congressional district -- and appeared in one of the Colbert Report's better known "Better Know A District" segments. Ironically, George W. Bush used the Democrat's 'Still The One' without permission during his 2004 campaign and was forced to stop when Hall publicly expressed his disapproval. Four years later, John McCain started using the same song for his own presidential campaign. Hall quickly shot him down as well.
