The Canadian singer/songwriter of L'Etranger, Ursula and Cash Brothers fame was nominated as the New Democratic Party's candidate for Toronto's Davenport riding in late 2009. In May of 2011, he was elected as Davenport's Member of Parliament, ending a 49 year Liberal stronghold on the riding. Interestingly enough, Cash wasn't the first musician-turned politician to run and win a seat for the NDP. Charlie Angus, his L'Etranger bandmate, has been the MP for Timmins- James Bay since 2004. Also interestingly, Cash was the only Canadian to perform at 1989's 'A Concert for Berlin' three days after the Berlin Wall fell.
