Back to Thanksgiving and Music History
Nickelback's Halftime-Show Controversy

When Dennis Guttman heard that Nickelback had been scheduled to perform during halftime at the annual Thanksgiving Day game in Detroit last year, the University of Michigan accounting student began an online petition to get the Canadian band punted out of the gig.
"Detroit is home to so many great musicians and they chose Nickelback?!?!?!" he wrote on his online petition, posted on Change.org. "Does anyone even like Nickelback?"
The petition garnered over 55,000 signatures -- and garnered Guttman national attention. Nonetheless, Nickelback still performed.
As an obvious makeup call, this Thanksgiving, Detroit resident Kid Rock will perform during the game (as he did in 2010), when he will play his new song, "Detroit, Michigan," a tribute to famous musicians from the Motor City.
