April 18, 1984: Michael Jackson Has Surgery Post-"Pepsi Fire"
Youtube
In January 1984, Michael Jackson would suffer painful second degree burns to his scalp when pyrotechnics set his hair on fire while shooting a Pepsi commercial at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. On this fateful April day, surgeons would attempt treatment to hide the resulting burn scars. The surgery was unsuccessful and is considered by some the start of Jackson's painkiller and plastic surgery addiction that ultimately resulted in his propofol overdose death in 2009.
