August 21, 1952: Joe Strummer Was Born

Joe Strummer, the legendary guitarist and singer for The Clash, and later the Mescaleros, was born on this day in 1952 in Ankara, Turkey (his father was a diplomat). As part of the original wave of British punk The Clash would introduce things like dub and reggae to wider audiences.
Also on this day in 2005, Robert Moog, inventor of the synthesiser died at aged 71, four months after being diagnosed with brain cancer. The Moog synth can be heard on literally thousands of hit songs and there's even an annual music festival called Moogfest in his honor.
