August 28, 2005: Suge Knight Gets Shot

Marion "Suge" Knight, the rap mogul who co-founded Death Row Records and once threatened to throw Vanilla Ice over a balcony, was shot in the leg at an MTV Awards pre-party being hosted by Kanye West in Miami, Florida.

Knight sued West for the costs of surgery, loss of income and the theft of a 15-carat, $147,000 diamond earring from the incident. This, in part because he went bankrupt in 2008 and needed the money. Knight and West settled out of court in early 2011 and the shooter was never caught.
