February 28, 1977: Ray Charles Attacked

Blind singer Ray Charles was attacked onstage by an audience member who tried to strangle him with a rope. Charles fought off the attacker until security could intervene. No charges were ever filed over the incident, though witnesses claimed the man yelled out "Ray Charles will see and the Lord will come tonight" before the assault. Apparently Charles continued to perform after a break.
