January 23, 1991: Radio Station Plays 'Stairway to Heaven' Marathon
Led Zeppelin
In one of the most epic promotional gimmicks radio history, John Sebastian, owner and general manager of KLSK FM in Albuquerque, New Mexico, played the Led Zeppelin song "Stairway to Heaven" for 24 hours straight to signify the station was switching over to a classic rock format.
At one point police showed up to the station to investigate. Concerned listeners had called the cops worried that the DJ had died, or, alternately, that terrorists had taken over the station.
