In 1973 the Watkins Glen Summer Jam in Watkins Glen, New York hosted the hippie triple whammy of the Allman Brothers, the Grateful Dead and the Band. Festival officials sold 150,000 tickets. Unfortunately, 600,000 people showed up, thinking it was a free show. At one point it was considered by Guinness World Records as "largest audience at a pop festival."
