July 27, 1976: Tina Turner Gets Divorce From Ike Turner

In 1976 Tina Tuner divorced husband and musical partner Ike Tuner. Ike, who was addicted to cocaine at time, was physically abusive towards Tina.

According to her biography, Tina left Ike after a particularly violent fight in Dallas with only 36 cents and a Mobil gas card. She would spend the next few months staying with various friends and hiding out from Ike.
