July 31, 1994: R. Kelly Secretly Marries 15-Year-Old Aaliyah

R&B singers Aaliyah and R. Kelly were secretly married at the Sheraton Gateway Suites, Rosemont, IL. Aaliyah, who died in 2001 in a plane crash, never admitted to being married, even though rap magazine Vibe published a copy of the marriage certificate.

In February 1995 her parents got the marriage annulled because Aaliyah had claimed on the certificate that she was 18. That, and she had married the man who would go on to create the "Trapped in the Closet" series.

And hey, it could have been worse. Jerry Lee Lewis married his 13 year old first cousin.
