July 13, 2002: Quarter of a Million People Attend Fatboy Slim Concert
David Etheridge-Barnes
At the height of the British Big Beat scene Fatboy Slim decided to throw a free beach party in Brighton, England. The DJ and "Rockafeller Skank" creator was expecting 60,000 people, but 250,000 showed up.
What stung more was the fact that one of the sponsors pulled out late in the game and the man known to his mum as Norman Cook had to put £100,000 ($154,000 US) of his own money into the show.
