June 4, 1984: Bruce Springsteen Released 'Born in the U.S.A.'
Columbia
Bruce Springsteen released Born in the U.S.A., his seventh and most successful studio album. The album would be the highest selling record in the U.S in 1985 thanks to hits like "Glory Days," "Dancing in the Dark" and "I'm on Fire."
The album's hard-scrabble tales of American life were often interpreted as fiercely patriotic and adopted as anthems by jingoists who didn't realize Springsteen was often singing about how bad some things in America were.
