June 3, 1982: Graceland Becomes a Tourist Attraction
Elvis Presley's Graceland mansion in Memphis, TN opens as a tourist attraction. The mansion quickly becomes a place of pilgrimage for Elvis fans. It was also declared a National Historic Landmark in 2006.
In related news, it was this week in 1992 when the US Postal Service, through a public vote, announced that people preferred the young Elvis stamp design as opposed to the fat, er, "older" Elvis.
