June 7, 1993: Prince Changes His Name to That Symbol Thingee

Pop star Prince changes his name to an unpronounceable hieroglyphic symbol meant to signify the combination of male and female. And also, apparently, as an act of defiance in an ongoing feud with his record label, Warner Brothers. Seven years later, in 2000, Prince would host the "Prince: A Celebration" party at his Paisley Park Studios and reclaim the name "Prince."
