May 15, 1991/2000: Realness War -- Richey Edwards vs. Britney Spears

On this day in 1991, Manic Street Preachers guitarist Richey Edwards infamously carved "4 real" into his arm with a razor blade during an NME interview. Four years later, he went missing and is presumed dead. In 2000, a completely, er, sexually unaware (see above period photo) Britney Spears made a parallel show of realness, telling a German magazine she intended to abstain from sex until marriage. Though Justin Timberlake admitted in 2002 "She lost her virginity a while ago -- and I should know," Brit did at least abstain from reproducing until after she married K-Fed.
