May 21, 1982: Get on the Groovy Train -- Hacienda Club Opens
Stevo1000, Wikipedia
The Hacienda Club, ground zero for breakout British acts like the Smiths, James, Oasis and Happy Mondays, opened in Manchester, England. The club was also an anchor of the "Madchester" acid house and rave scene of the late '80s. Peter Hook of New Order co-owned the club at one point and wrote a book about his experiences called, tellingly, How Not to Run a Club. Now it's an apartment building. Sigh.
