November 12, 1965: The Velvet Underground Play First Paid Gig
Jawbone Press
The Velvet Underground, New York's original hipster band, played their first paying gig at Summit High School in Summit, New Jersey. They made $75.
The band's original drummer Angus MacLise quit before the show, claiming that it was a sellout gig and that he was in it for the art. He was replaced by Mo Tucker.
