November 10, 1975: SS Edmund Fitzgerald Sinks

The SS Edmund Fitzgerald freighter sunk in Lake Superior, drowning 29 men.
The tragedy prompted Canadian folk singer Gordon Lightfoot to write epic song "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald," which appeared on his 1976 album Summertime Dream, and was a number one hit in Canada and number two in the U.S.
