November 2, 1984: Marvin Gaye's Father Found Guilty of Manslaughter
Evening Standard, Hulton Archive
Marvin Gay Sr. was found guilty of manslaughter in the shooting death of his son Marvin Gaye Jr. (the "e" on Gaye was a showbiz add-on). Gay was given five years probation because the court ruled his actions were in self-defense.
The father and son had been in a heated argument when the elder Gay shot his son twice in the chest.
