September 17, 1998 was a particularly bizarre day for multiple musicians. First, an American Airlines flight had to make an emergency stop in Denver to discharge a passenger who had gotten violent after meeting Hootie & the Blowfish on the plane.
At the same time Wu-Tang Clan rapper Ol' Dirty Bastard (Russell Jones) in Los Angeles at the House of Blues nightclub and charged with making terrorist threats. ODB had been kicked out of the club for being drunk and disorderly, so he started threatening to kill all the staff. Cue the police.
Meanwhile, country star Terri Clark was riding around a rodeo arena in a convertible at the New Mexico State Fair when a woman tried to pull her out of the car, dislocating her shoulder.
