September 29, 1976: Jerry Lee Lewis' Whole Lotta Shootin' Birthday
Evening Standard, Hulton Archive
Enigmatic first generation rock 'n' roll star Jerry Lee Lewis was charged with shooting a firearm with within the city limits for accidentally shooting his bass player Norman Owens in the chest.
Lewis, who was quite the loose cannon in the '70s, was celebrating his 41st birthday and showing off his gun prowess.
Owens survived and, rightly so, sued Lewis.
