September 25, 1980: Led Zeppelin's John Bonham Died
Evening Standard, Hulton Archive
Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, died at age 32 in what is quite possibly the most definingly "rock 'n' roll excess way to go -- asphyxiation on one's own vomit due to consumption of alcohol.
Initially, Zeppelin would disband when they decided that they couldn't go on without Bonham. However, they have reunited since then, most recently in 2007 with John's son Jason Bonham filling in on drums.
