September 24, 1991: Nirvana's 'Nevermind' Album Released in America

Nirvana's Nevermind album was released in America, providing the catalyst for the alternative/grunge revolution that would last for the next decade.
The album, which featured the single "Smells Like Teen Spirit," initially entered the charts at #144 and didn't hit #1 until January 1992 when Boxing Week sales would finally push it to the top. Over 30 million copies of the album have been sold.
