Back to Presidents Who Rocked
Chester A. Arthur, banjoist
National Archive/Newsmakers
Gore Vidal once described Chester A. Arthur as "the most fastidious and fashionable president." Indeed, the man was blessed with a set of historically great mutton chops and was known to keep more than 80 pairs of pants in his wardrobe, due to his predilection for changing several times a day. He also played the banjo, which would make for a great overall look, provided he could find the right trousers.
