23. Purity Ring, 'Shrines'
With the unabashed devotion of a disciple, fans worship at the shrine of Purity Ring. This band has mashed the eerie poetry of the body with the extreme, confused emotions of a child. The result is a sort of gloomy, confused line of reasoning that follows itself in and out of the ancient world and our gadget-laden present time. All this set to the sampling and synths masterfully manipulated into loops and whorls of vast proportion. The intense physicality of this record is matched only by its wide-eyed slink into the subconscious. -- Caitlin White
