30. Mac DeMarco, '2'

The weird, loopy guitar playing of Mac Demarco waltzes around like a yo-yo -- and he does tricks with it too! One eye on the future and one looking back at the past, DeMarco somehow brings the feel good sound of the '70s right into 2012 without a single trace of retro. Though he plays the fool, watch for Shakespearean undercurrents in this 21-year-old's work. He's certainly not as simple as he makes himself out to be. -- Caitlin White
