39. Flying Lotus, 'Until the Quiet Comes'
Laptop-tronica has come a long way since the '90s, led in large part by the psychedelic experiments of L.A. producer Steven "Flying Lotus" Ellison. After the sonic pile-up of Cosmogramma, this time out Lotus flies off in a jazzier direction (perhaps inspired by his great-aunt and uncle Alice and John Coltrane) and brings along the likes of Erykah Badu and Thom Yorke to help realize his more restrained but still hallucinatory vision. If the end result relies somewhat on dream-logic to fully absorb, that doesn’t make the album any less wondrous. -- Joshua Ostroff
