Back to Unplugged: The Five Best and Worst Acoustic Albums
WORST Erasure -- 'Union Street'
Mute
Why U.K. synth-pop duo Erasure would release a wanky acoustic album filled with dobro and pedal steel is not only confusing, it just doesn't work. Rather than unplug its most dancefloor-friendly hits, Erasure offers up a collection of singer/songwriter B-sides that undoubtedly would have benefitted from a more stripped-down touch, but ultimately end up sagging under the weight of overwrought arrangements. There is such a thing as too many strings.
