How Goth is... Austra?

"Austra is an example of one of the many bands that is very goth but doesn't use that word to describe themselves. Media will describe them as goth-y, and I agree. I wish that goth kids would go and see Austra because I think that they would like it. [Singer Katie Stelmanis] has got the aesthetic theatrical element -- she's very witchy -- and sonically it's got that sort of very spacey dark ambient part about it. Basically, I think that Austra is one of the most goth contemporary 'hip' acts. However, I do believe 'Austra' means 'goddess of light' -- so she gets a minus point for that."
