Video: 'Little Bird'
Highlight: "The song is inspired by a really bad breakup with a boyfriend, and the idea was that I couldn't move on even though it was always bad," singer Annie Sullivan tells Spinner. "The music video uses this idea, showing the guy (portrayed by Nick Jozwiak) passed out drunk and the girl (me) asleep and upset. The clothing comes to life while we're asleep. First, the girl sneaks out of the room and meets up with a friend (Veronica Kohl), and then the boyfriend's clothes notice, and join us. At first, the girl is upset to see him, but by the end of the video, she shrugs it off because she loves him despite his faults."

After all the endless post-'Saturday Night Live' hubub, when Lana Del Rey's debut album 'Born to Die' was finally released last week, it did anything but -- immediately topping iTunes charts around the globe.

But a Tumblr image with the heading "Canada's like, 'lol idiots'" soon made the rounds, showing 14 national iTunes Top 10s with newcomer Lana Del Rey astride each one except Canada's, which instead was topped by her binary opposite Leonard Cohen, a 77-year-old icon so imbued with authenticity that he named his album 'Old Ideas.'

The pair went back and forth at No. 1 through the week, but that was just digital sales and, as it unsurprisingly turned out, Cohen's audience is more of a physical record owner. When the final SoundScan numbers came out Wednesday, Cohen stood proudly at No. 1 in Canada, with Adele at No. 2 and Del Rey down at 3.

The U.S. numbers were slightly different, with Adele on the top, followed by Lana and Leonard. Admittedly, Del Rey did take the UK chart with Cohen at No. 2 and Adele way down at No. 3, behind some dude named Ed Sheeran.

Clavicyclette. Say it three times fast if you can. Most folks might get a little tongue tied but Montreal singer and multi-instrumentalist Little Scream has it down pat after using the fantastical piano-bicycle in her new video for 'Boatman (Live With The Clavicyclette).'

"My friend Ian had come across the clavicyclette, made by a great piano man in Montreal named Spike Taylor," Little Scream, aka Laurel Sprengelmeyer, tells Spinner. "It's like a dep bike that people use to deliver groceries from corner stores [called Depanneurs in Quebec] but with a piano on the front of it instead of a basket."

Though she had "zero budget" to work with, Little Scream still managed to pull together a choir and the crazy bike for the video shoot. It was a bonus, of course, that she didn't need some flashy (and expensive) studio set to bring to life the track from her Polaris Prize-longlisted album, 'The Golden Record.'

And as Brian Wilson and company share a stage together for the first time in more than two decades, they'll have help from a couple of fellow Southern California bands: Foster the People and Maroon 5.

The three L.A. groups will join forces for a "special performance," and while the mashing together of, say, 'Wouldn't It Be Nice,' 'Pumped Up Kicks' and 'Moves Like Jagger' would make for a sequence of sounds even more confounding and disturbing than side three of 'SMiLE,' we're intrigued by the possibility.

As genre-defying Minnesota-born, Brooklyn-based visual artist/producer Mux Mool prepares to release his sophomore LP, 'Planet High School,' he sat down with Spinner/RPM to discuss his beautiful, frenetic collection of melancholic synth-funk instrumentals, the fate of America's youth, his pursuit of happiness and why he'd rather remix Smokey Robinson than Lil Wayne or Drake.

What does the title 'Planet High School' refer to?

It's about growing up, or not growing up, rather. It's about how I kinda grew up too fast and was miserable all my life until I was maybe 24, and now I don't have to grow up ever. Not like, some Peter Pan s--- or anything, just that I can wear t-shirts for the rest of my life if I want and I'm still stoked on eating cookies for breakfast if I want.

The Ting Tings haven't released an album since their 2008 smash hit 'We Started Nothing,' but that doesn't mean they've been resting on their laurels for the past four years. After touring extensively, the band retired to East Berlin to begin work on their sophomore effort. A year and a half later, they scrapped their work and relocated to southern Spain to record 'Sounds From Nowheresville,' a record they are now ready to share with the world.

Now Spinner premieres 'Soul Killing,' the third song to be released from that album, which will hit shelves Feb. 27 in the U.K. and March 13 in the United States.

The 22nd annual benefit concert for the Tibet House will be held at Carnegie Hall on Monday, Feb. 13. Esteemed composer Philip Glass, who is celebrating his 75th birthday this year, has curated a star-studded lineup including Lou Reed, James Blake, Antony Hegarty and Stephin Merritt of the Magnetic Fields.

So how did Hegarty get involved? "I performed for the Tibetan House Concert maybe four or five years ago and this is my second time," Hegarty tells Spinner of his connection to the event. "I met Philip Glass originally through Nico Muhly."

As for the event itself, Hegarty says, "It's like a cavalcade with so many different performers. Usually a bunch of monks will come out at a certain point. There will be some speaking, but usually there are a lot of performers. It's a sort of variety show in a way."

You can take the boy out of the White Stripes, but you can't, well, you know the rest. Last month, Jack White unveiled his debut solo single, 'Love Interruption,' and while it was a lovely tune -- all sunny organ and whimsical clarinet -- the B-side, 'Machine Gun Silhouette,' packs a bit more firepower, proving ol' Jack hasn't forgotten how to rock.

The 7-inch vinyl record containing both songs dropped today via White's Third Man label, and it didn't take long for 'Machine Gun' to surface on YouTube. The tune opens with fiddle and heavy guitar, and after the piano comes in, White presides over a country-fried rocker, boogying in a style not far removed from the Stripes' twangier fare.

He thinks he's figured it out this year. For the first time, the Grammy show will put the spotlight on the genre with a segment featuring Grammy nominees Deadmau5, the Foo Fighters, Chris Brown, David Guetta and Lil Wayne, all performing in a tent space amid 1,000 fans.

"We decided to go all out this year," Ehrlich said of the performance taking place outside the Staples Center in Los Angeles, where Sunday's ceremony will be held. "All we're going to try and do next week is to try and put the home audience in the middle of it. ... It is more than just sitting there and watching it."

Sharon Van Etten is boiling water to make a cup of tea in her New York apartment. Normally, this wouldn't be of note, except for the fact that she hasn't had a place to call her own in over a year. Since the release of her sophomore album, 'Epic,' Van Etten spent her life on the run: Darting overseas, zagging across state lines, trying to make sense of an incredibly raw breakup while sleeping over the moving wheels of a touring van.

Coming back to New York, Van Etten had nowhere to go. She couch-surfed around the city before hearing from the National's guitarist Aaron Dessner, who wanted to record the songwriter's newest work. Hunkering down in his backyard studio, the pair began building Van Etten's third full-length, 'Tramp,' a testament to the road-weary singer's past year and a reflection on a love badly spent. With what she calls "a bit of separation and understanding," Van Etten has finally walked away from a mysteriously traumatic past and embraced her bright future.

Spinner spoke with the up-and-coming singer about her Jagjaguar debut, which is out now, her Charlie Chaplin-like sense of humor and whether or not she's all right.

How did you end up working with Aaron on 'Tramp'?

While I was on tour with Megafaun, [guitarist] Brad Cook woke me up to show me a video of [Bon Iver's] Justin Vernon, Aaron and Bryce [Dessner] covering my song 'Love More' at the Cincinnati Music Now festival. I was blown away, because how the hell do they know who I am?

At the end of that tour, I was getting ready to record the album 'Epic' that 'Love More' ended up being on. I decided to write them all, to see if they wanted to be involved on my next record. Everyone was really busy, but Aaron offered up his studio to possibly demo some songs when I had more time and when he was freer. So after touring 'Epic,' I had all these songs in the works. I called Aaron up to see if he was still down for helping me. I brought the demos to the studio and he said, "We don't need to demo this. We can just do the record."

UPDATE: According to PreFix Mag, we were wrong to believe that Lana Del Rey would be cancelling any upcoming tours. In a press release, Del Rey's management states "Lana told MTV several weeks ago that she plans to tour in October. There has never been a spring tour announced or cancelled. Lana continues to perform in public and on TV. She gave a fantastic performance on Letterman last week; she will appear at the Amoeba in LA today, and the SF Amoeba on Thursday."

"It's you, it's you, it's all for you," Lana Del Rey's management has proclaimed after postponing the 25-year-old's upcoming 30-date tour. According to the New York Post (via Rolling Stone), Del Rey's entire team has urged the inexperienced performer to avoid continued bad press and stay home to hone her stage craft.

"[Lana] and her manager decided to cancel [the tour] after 'SNL,'" an unnamed source tells the Post's Page Six. "They figure it allows time for her to clear her head, then go back to selling tickets. More importantly, they figure, the extra time gives them more distance from 'SNL.'"

Well, it's official. Nobody can accuse Toronto's F---ed Up of being lazy. Today (Feb. 7) the Canadian punks released 'Year of the Tiger,' the fifth installment in their series of Chinese Zodiac singles via Matador.

The song features a supporting cast of indie film godfather Jim Jarmusch, Austra, as well as Annie-Claude Deschênes of Duchess Says, and is heralded by the band as "honestly one of the best things we've ever done." With an endorsement like that, how could you not want to check it out?

While many of us were playing catchup on our Monday post-Super Bowl sleep, the Black Keys debuted a new video for their single 'Gold on the Ceiling' on MTV. The Keys ditched their usual humorous (see: lothario dinosaurs, kids kicking the crap out of each other, dancing custodians) in favor of more conventional rock-star fare.

Directed by Reid Long, the clip details your standard road video rockisms: Pat Carney groovin', Dan Auerbach shredding, the crowd getting pumped, the band laying down some hotness in the studio and trying on ridiculous threads.

Another year, another Juno nominees list that reads like the actual year in music -- and not just Canadian music -- with nominations for the April 1 William Shatner-hosted award show going to North America's biggest stars, from Drake and DeadMau5 to Justin Bieber and Michael Buble to Feist and F---ed Up. (And, yes, to Nickelback and somehow Avril, too).

The latter are a reminder of how ridiculous the Juno Awards used to be. They were often called the Canadian Grammys -- except there was rarely any crossover between the nominees lists -- and the Junos inability to recognize the surging early-2000s indie scene inspired the creation of the Polaris Prize to award the actual best Canadian album. Sales were all that mattered for the big awards which prized quantity over quality.

Of course, sales still matter -- the top awards remain restricted to artists who pass certain quotas -- but the difference is that, for the most part, the best Canadians are also major sellers. As well, the alternative categories now read like a Polaris shortlist -- not to mention reading like many New York music critics' year-end lists.

This week's most controversial artist has reportedly split from fiance Benjamin Bronfman, who is also the father of their 2-year-old son, Ikhyd Edgar Arular Bronfman.

As the Daily News' Gatecrasher reports, the 36-year-old M.I.A. spends most of her time in London, away from Bronfman and their child. Her fiance is the former guitarist for punk band the Exit and the son of Edgar Bronfman, Jr., former CEO and Chairman of Warner Music Group and heir to the Seagram Company.
