Music Appreciation: Duff McKagan

Original Guns N' Roses bassist Duff McKagan recently revealed that the band was listening to some surprising albums when they recorded 'Appetite for Destruction.' In other words, it wasn't a steady diet of Aerosmith and Mötley Crüe. The same holds true for him now in Velvet Revolver: He points to Beyoncé's 'Single Ladies' as one of those tunes that'll get stuck in your head. "Killer song," he says.

Potent Quotables: Beyonce's Lazy Ways

"When I'm home, I just drop my shoes [on the floor]. Anything to do with cooking, cleaning ... I'm just really bad at it." --Beyonce

Despite her domestic shortcomings, Jay-Z liked it. And put a ring on it.

Best Songs of 2008: No. 6

'If I Were a Boy,' Beyonce

From this song, it's evident that if Beyonce were a boy, she'd be one helluva wing man. However, like most great songs, 'If I Were a Boy' transcends gender and it touches upon communication breakdowns that anybody can relate to. In fact, we're thinking that Jay-Z could do a bang-up job on a responsorial rap, 'If I Were a Girl.'

Alter-Egomaniacs: Singers and Their Split Personalities

Why do so many singers adopt a second persona, either onstage or in real life? It could be they just can't cope with being their usual selves sometimes -- or, more likely, it's that they're overflowing with more talent than it's fair for just one individual to possess.

Beyoncé aka Sasha Fierce

Beyoncé's new double album, 'I Am ... Sasha Fierce,' is the work of two artists. On one side, the refined megastar we all know simply as Beyoncé. On the other, a brash, sexy newcomer named, you guessed it, Sasha Fierce. Surprise -- they're the same person! As Beyoncé puts it, "Sasha Fierce is the fun, more sensual, more aggressive, more outspoken, more glamorous side that comes out ... when I'm on the stage." Watch Beyonce on Sessions.

Outrageous Concert Riders: Beyonce

"Juicy Baked Chicken: Legs, Wings & Breast only" --Beyonce

The girl likes her eats like she likes her hits: 'Bootylicious.'

Potent Quotables: Solange Sprung on Bjork

"[I want] Bjork's [career]. Having the success completely on your own terms ... while still managing to be politically aware, fashionable and make art on that scale is breathtaking." --Solange Knowles

Beyonce's baby sister insists that it's not B's larger-than-life career that she's after. She recently told PopEater that she'd prefer that of the decidedly quirky Icelandic singer.

Conor Oberst Releasing Solo Album + More

  • Conor Oberst will release a new solo album -- his first in 13 years -- on August 4. The dewey-eyed rocker also has a handful of live dates lined up, including an appearance at the Austin City Limits Music Festival in September.
  • Stone Temple Pilots may offer up some new music following their run of reunion shows this summer. "I think new material will come probably after this tour," bassist Robert DeLeo told Billboard. "I think the whole thing now is kind of getting back and re-acclimating ourselves to the songs that we know. I think that's gonna make for a better atmosphere and better performances ... instead of doing a new record."
  • The marriage of Jay-Z and Beyonce is official, according to a town clerk in a New York City suburb. The couple, who reportedly tied the knot on April 4 but have yet to confirm such details, have since filed marriage papers.

  • Bauhaus' Peter Murphy will launch a lengthy solo tour this summer, beginning May 30 in Seattle. The jaunt is set to wrap on July 12 in Dallas.
