Dave Matthews Band, 'Funny the Way It Is' -- Video Premiere

The first video from Dave Matthews Band's new album, 'Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King,' might look familiar. Directed by Fenton Williams and Jeff Crane, the clip employs a bevy of stop-motion animation a la Peter Gabriel's 'Sledgehammer.' And what would a DMB video be without a little live action? Even if it is superimposed. Watch the exclusive premiere of 'Funny the Way It Is' below. And for more live action, watch Dave Matthews and Co. rock New York's Beacon Theater here.

Potent Quotables: Dave Done With Twitter?

"They [called it] idiot boy humor and I ... got paranoid." --Dave Matthews

The rocker revealed that a recent article outing celebs on Twitter -- in which he joked "it's nice for an ignorant dude like me to have access to that many people" -- forced him to curb his notoriously colorful communications.

Pearl Jam, DMB, Beastie Boys Headline Austin City Limits

Austin City Limits has announced the line-up for their eighth annual shindig in, you guessed it, Austin, TX. And the headliners are (you guessed it): Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band and the Beastie Boys. If you're feeling deja vu, we're with you on that one -- San Francisco's Outside Lands recently announced those exact three headliners. Additionally, the Beastie Boys are headed to this year's Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza (while Pearl Jam has anchored both of those in the recent past).

What separates all of these festivals are the mid-level bands and that's where ACL stays true to its beginnings as an outgrowth from the PBS television series of the same name. In addition to the ubiquitous festival heavy-hitters -- Thievery Corp., Michael Franti and Spearhead, Kings of Leon, Ben Harper and the Relentless7, Sound Tribe Sector Nine (STS9) -- ACL boasts more than 100 "other" bands, including non-commercial radio favorites such as Medeski, Martin and Wood, Andrew Bird, the Avett Brothers, DeVotchKa and Dr. Dog. Singer-songwriters are again in full force, and this time include Bon Iver, Brett Dennen, Todd Snider and John Vanderslice. Local favorites Ghostland Observatory return, alongside first timers Dead Weather (Jack White's latest) and John Legend. Other acts of particular note: the Levon Helm Band, the B-52's, Lily Allen, the Decemberists, Arctic Monkeys and Sonic Youth.

Pearl Jam, DMB and Beastie Boys Lead Outside Lands Festival

Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band and the Beastie Boys will headline the second annual Outside Lands, which returns to Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, for three days beginning August 28. Other notable performers include Incubus, M.I.A., Mars Volta, Modest Mouse, Black Eyed Peas and a highly-anticipated set by Jack White's newest band Dead Weather (featuring members of the Raconteurs, Queens of the Stone Age and the Kills).

In addition to the music and the historic setting, Outside Lands will expand upon last year's ancillary installations, all of which showcase Northern California's specialties (via a wine-tasting barn, an eco-village and a technology corridor, err, tent.)

Dave Matthews Blasts Grammys for LeRoi Moore Snub

Dave Matthews Band saxophonist LeRoi Moroe died last August after complications from injuries he suffered in an ATV accident. But Moore did not make the list of faces and names showcased during the Grammys' 'In Memoriam' segment last Sunday. And it's a snub DMB fans are rallying against with online petitions that demand an apology.

NARAS President Neil Portnow responded to the criticism, saying in a statement, "Nearly 250 members of our music community have passed in the last year, and all of them have been listed in the program book for the 51st Annual Grammy Awards, including LeRoi Moore. For the 'Encore' segment of our annual Grammy Awards telecast, unfortunately we are unable to include all of the talented and wonderful people within the allotted timeframe. The Academy recognizes Moore's contributions to music and music education, and we are deeply saddened by his premature passing."

Dave Matthews Band Saxophonist LeRoi Moore Dies

Dave Matthews Band saxophonist LeRoi Moore, one of the band's founding members, died on Tuesday afternoon after struggling with injuries from a June 30 ATV accident. He was 46.

"Moore had recently returned to his Los Angeles home to begin an intensive physical rehabilitation program," a spokesperson for the Dave Matthews Band said. The ATV accident occurred on his farm near Charlottesville, Virginia, the city where DMB originally formed in 1991 with Moore, singer/guitarist Dave Matthews and drummer Carter Beauford.

In the days following his accident, Jeff Coffin (Bela Fleck and the Flecktones) had been substituting for the fallen saxophonist. In July, Coffin told Spinner that he was just a temporary replacement until Moore could perform with the band again. "They're such a strong band," he said. "I'm just trying to do my thing in their river and really play a supportive role." Coffin performed with the band, as scheduled, at a DMB concert on Tuesday night following word of Moore's death.

The statement from the band spokesperson says that, despite his injuries, Moore's death came "unexpectedly." Read the full story.
