David Lee Roth Says Story About Ontario Cops Saving His Life Is Nuts

David Lee Roth says the story two Ontario police officers told Canadian reporters this week about having saved the singer's life last month is untrue. Though the cops alleged that they pulled the Van Halen frontman over for speeding in Oakland, Ontario, Roth is calling bull hockey on their claim that they called an ambulance to rescue Roth while he was having a severe allergic reaction to nuts.

"I was in only from July 1st through the 4th with a performance at the Quebec City Summer Festival," Roth told TMZ. "I had no encounters or incidents with the police. The only thing I'm allergic to is criticism."

So much for the law-enforcement claims that Diamond Dave went into anaphylactic shock from eating Blue Diamond nuts. And sorry, Sammy Hagar, looks like you're still out of VH.

Tiger Woods Jams With Van Halen

Tiger Woods may have finished second in last weekend's Masters, but the iconic golfer will still have reason to celebrate in Vegas on Saturday when Van Halen resume their world tour at Woods' annual Tiger Jam. The 13-time Grand Slam winner and VH fan has already seen two shows on this tour, but having the band play his event is something he's looking forward to. "Van Halen is one of the greatest rock bands of all time," Woods tells Spinner. "We are honored to have them perform at this year's Tiger Jam."

Since its inception in 1997, the show has hosted some of the biggest bands in music, including the Eagles in 1998, Prince in 2004 and Bon Jovi in 2007. While playing at a show for one of the biggest athletes in the world might seem like a no-brainer for many acts, Woods doesn't take the participation for granted. "[It] enables is to further our foundation's mission of providing educational opportunities to underserved youth," he says. "We appreciate all of the support extended to us by the music industry."

Rock Almanac: April 16, 2008

On This Date in 1993: David Lee Roth is arrested in Washington Square Park in Manhattan and charged with buying marijuana from an undercover police officer.

The Almanac Advises for April 16: "For many city dwellers, parklands are an oasis in the urban landscape where a person can relax in the greenery and forget about the rat race. Green spaces are proven to add to the livability quotient of any city."

No Singer? No Problem! Van Halen

Van Halen

Old Singers: David Lee Roth, Sammy Hagar
New Singer: Gary Cherone

Third time was decidedly not the charm when it came to Van Halen finding a replacement for a replacement. The nicknames of the respective frontmen should have been ample warning: Going from "Diamond Dave" to "The Red Rocker" to "That Guy From What Was That Band? Oh, Yeah, Extreme; No, Not the Guitarist -- Though He Was Pretty Good -- the Other Guy" is rock devolution in a nutshell.

Shockingly Cocky Quotes: No. 10

Van Halen Renew Expectations With Reunion Tour

If any band knows about the expectations brought on by anticipation, it's Van Halen. For 23 years, fans have clamored for "Diamond" David Lee Roth to stand next to Eddie Van Halen once again, while Eddie's signature solos speak to Roth's swaggering vocals in songs like 'Ain't Talking 'Bout Love,' 'You Really Got Me' and many other songs that propelled Van Halen to rock deity status from the late '70s to the early '80s.

Now that the long dreamed about tour is finally here, can the show live up to the fantasies? Hell no. But on its own, the Van Halen reunion is a damn good time, perhaps because the band -- Roth, Eddie, drummer Alex Van Halen and new bassist Wolfgang Van Halen, Eddie's son -- seem as happy to be on stage together again as the crowd is to see them there. When the tour rolled into Philadelphia for just its third show on Monday, Eddie and Roth hugged during a two-minute plus curtain call in the midst of 'I'm The One.'

Rock's Hardest Partiers: No. 20

20. Van Halen

David Lee Roth once said, "I used to have a drug problem, now I make enough money." Unfortunately, it's really easy to stop making money. Just ask everyone in Van Halen, including Dave himself, who in 1996 got busted buying pot in a New York City park in his pajamas. Meanwhile, three lead singers later, guitar god Eddie Van Halen entered rehab for undisclosed reasons at the ripe old age of 52. So much for aging gracefully.
