George Clinton Brings the Funk for Obama + More

From onstage shout-outs to a cover story in one of music's most lauded publications, the presidential race continues to garner attention from the music world. The latest artists and icons stepping up and speaking out below.
  • George Clinton brought funk and campaign fervor to both Sum Funk 2008 and Detroit's Comerica Cityfest, where he endorsed Barack Obama with words and and an ornate tshirt.
  • Rolling Stone editor-in-chief Jann Wenner took his support for Obama to the brink by giving him the cover. Again. The Illinois senator first graced the face of RS back in March, and was positioned as "A New Hope." This month, in an attempt to send an even stronger message, the cover bears no words at all.
  • While Obama has denied having correspondence with starlet Scarlet Johansson, he has, however, reportedly been connected to Jennifer Lopez, who spoke about "health care with members of his staff."
  • Boy George, who was denied a Visa to the U.S. and was forced to cancel his tour, penned a song for Barack Obama entitled (you guessed it) 'Yes We Can.' Hear it here.
  • The National have created "Mr. November" tshirts in support of Barack Obama, with all proceeds going to his campaign. The shirt's meaning is twofold: the first is obvious, and the second refers to the last track on the band's 2005 album, 'Alligator.'
  • Lil Wayne supports Barack Obama. He guesses. In an interview with Blender, the top-selling rapper waxed poetic on politics saying, "A woman or a black man versus an old white dude? F--- no! They gonna be like, 'This black-ass n---- trying to come in my Oval Office? F--- no!'"

Dr. Dre Developing Alcoholic Beverages + More

  • Dr. Dre has partnered with Drinks Americas to develop premium alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, starting with a cognac and a sparkling vodka. The rapper/producer plans to develop a premium tequila brand in the future.
  • PEOPLE magazine won the bidding war for the first snapshots of Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony's twins, who were born on February 22. The magazine paid a record-setting $6.5 million for pictures of the baby girl and boy, whose names are not yet known.
  • Christian rock pioneer Larry Norman died of heart failure on Sunday at his home in Salem. He was 60.
  • Black Rebel Motorcycle Club will kick off a U.S. club tour on April 16 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The 13-date jaunt, in support of their latest effort, 'Baby 81,' is set to wrap on May 19 in Austin, Texas.

Jennifer Lopez Gives Birth to Twins + More

  • Jennifer Lopez gave birth to twins -- a boy and a girl -- early Friday in Long Island, New York. These are the first children for Lopez and the fourth and fifth for her husband, singer Marc Anthony. "Jennifer and Marc are delighted, thrilled and over the moon," Lopez's manager told PEOPLE.
  • Aaron Carter was arrested for drug possession on Thursday after the 20-year-old singer was pulled over by police for speeding. Cops searched Carter's Cadillac Escalade and found less than two ounces of marijuana. The singer, younger brother of Backstreet Boys' Nick Carter, spent the night and jail and is due in court this morning.
  • Eight people were arrested at an Akon show in Denmark on Wednesday after a fire alarm sounded and violence broke out. Nearly 3,000 people attended the free concert, held at the Fields mall. Police were reportedly attacked when they tried to evacuate the crowd. No serious injuries were reported.
  • Spoon will kick off a spring U.S. tour, beginning April 2 in Kansas City, Missouri. Currently, the jaunt runs through April 19 in Indianapolis, but more dates are expected to be announced.

Beatles Guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Dies + More

  • Renowned Beatles guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the man who brought transcendental meditation to the West, died Tuesday. He was thought to be 91.
  • The White Stripes are being sued for $70,000 for using a sample on their song 'Jumble Jumble,' off their 2000 album 'De Stijl.' Former Quebec radio host Dominique Payette alleges the 10-second clip was taken from her radio show and used without permission.
  • Amy Winehouse was questioned by police following a video that surfaced featuring the embattled singer allegedly smoking crack. A spokesperson for the Scotland Yard confirmed that Winehouse was interviewed by authorities in relation to unlawful possession of a controlled drug.
  • Jennifer Lopez's father, David Lopez, confirmed that the singer and her husband, singer Marc Anthony, were expecting twins. "Yes, twins," he told Escandalo TV. "The thing is in my family, my sister also had twins, so it's a hereditary thing. I'm very proud. Jennifer has yearned to be a mother for many years." The singer/actress/dancer is due any day now.
