Potent Quotables: Mandy Robbed?

"When I was growing up, my parents called me Mimi and then Mariah Carey came out ... she stole my nickname." --Mandy Moore

While we sympathize, we can't help but be grateful that Mrs. Mariah won out with her now infamous alter-ego moniker.

Mariah Carey Not Good for Science

We thought that everyone knew the act of singing a pop song wasn't rocket science, but a group of British eggheads apparently didn't get that memo -- and have gone all apoplectic over the album Mariah Carey released recently. The members of Sense About Science have belatedly begun complaining about the title of 'E = MC2,' not so much because Albert Einstein hasn't gotten his fair share of royalties, but because the singer has been messing with the minds of impressionable children with her explanation of its meaning.

In contrast to good ol' Uncle Al, who spent eons coming up with the theory of relativity -- summarized as energy times the speed of light squared -- the diva claimed her equation to signify "emancipation equals Mariah Carey times two." We haven't witnessed this sort of ruckus since the world's mathematicians went on a rampage over the "one, two, three, fourteen" in U2's 'Vertigo.'

Ryan Adams Name-Checks T.I., Beyonce and Mariah

For the music blogs and mags busy putting bows on their pretty little year-end best of packages, including, well, us, Ryan Adams has a few suggestions. Kinda.

"The new T.I. record ['Paper Trail'] kind of kicks," Adams told to Spinner when he and the Cardinals dropped in for a Sessions performance. "Still, T.I. confuses me ever so slightly because ... I mean, the flow is fast, and isn't T.I. supposed to be the King of the South? But I don't know -- some of it seems too boasting and I want to hear information."

Alter-Egomaniacs: Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey aka Mimi

Back in the day, celebrity alter egos were all about creative self-expression. Now they're all about divas with multiple personality disorders. On her 2005 (don't call it a) comeback album 'The Emancipation of Mimi,' the titular character was supposed to represent Mariah's real, true, liberated self. In other words, she's not crazy. It was that other lady who made 'Glitter' that was crazy.
