Potent Quotables: Strokes on the Sauce

"It's all a vague ball of confusion. [There was] a lot of alcohol."
--Nikolai Fraiture

In a recent interview, the Strokes guitarist described the band's foggy 2001 recording session for their critically acclaimed debut, 'Is This It.'

Steven Tyler to Publish Tell-All Memoir + More

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler will write a memoir about "all the unexpurgated, brain-jangling tales of debauchery, sex and drugs, transcendence and chemical dependence you will ever want to hear."

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists announced fall tour dates with openers Against Me!

Strokes bassist Nikolai Fraiture's side project, Nickel Eye, revealed three songs online. Fraiture worked with Regina Spektor and Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner on the project.

Land of Talk will support Broken Social Scene, kicking things off on September 11 in New York City.

Jane's Addiction Reunion Highlights NME Awards

It's been a long time coming; 17 years and some change, to be more precise. On Wednesday night in L.A., at the first-ever U.S. NME Awards, the four founding members of Jane's Addiction reunited for the first time since disbanding in 1991. Taking the stage together to receive the Godlike Genius Award, bassist Eric Avery, who was the lone holdout during the band's recent reunions, lead the foursome's thank you's, saying, "I drew the short straw, so I'm going first." Avery then thanked the British magazine for the honor, while guitarist Dave Navarro thanked NME for "facilitating this reunion" along with frontman Perry Farrell. Drummer Stephen Perkins' message was more personal, declaring, "I want to thank these guys behind me. I love you guys."

Jane's opened their performance -- which was broadcast on MySpace -- with 'Stop,' before launching into 'Mountain Song' and 'Ocean Size.' The crowd pushed to the front of the stage and ladies in cocktail dresses pogoed to the band's fury. Even media types in the balcony were suitably impressed. The quartet toned down the intensity with a seated Navarro and Avery, and Perkins on steel drums for the finale of 'Jane Says.'

Eagles of Death Metal Get a 'Heart On'

Desert rock 'n' rollers Eagles of Death Metal have left the road for a little while in order to record their third album, and if frontman Jesse "the Devil" Hughes' words are anything to go by, it'll be one heck of a release.

"I'm the luckiest hillbilly ever and rock n' roll's being very good to me right now," Hughes tells Spinner of his recent demo-recording sessions. "Without sounding pompous, I almost feel like the cape of rock has come around me and I might be in its confidence for a split second."

Hughes has a host of tracks being primed for the release including the Kat Von D-inspired 'High Voltage,' as well as 'Prissy Prancin',' 'Secret Plans,' 'S---s and Giggles' and 'Stylus Interuptus.' The latter song would have lent the February 2008 due release its title were it not for Queens of the Stone Age mainman and Eagles co-conspirator Josh Homme naming his last QOTSA album 'Era Vulgaris.'

"Josh beat me to the Latin punch so to speak," Hughes laughs. "It's gonna be released on Valentine' Day is how it looks, and I want to call it like, 'Heart On.'"

Patty Griffin Comes Around to Sigur Ros

Singer-songwriter Patty Griffin admits she's been a little stodgy when it comes to new music. "When you get to a certain age you go, 'You guys have the Strokes and we had the Replacements,'" she tells Spinner. And she made that same argument with a friend who tried to turn her onto Sigur Ros, until she was forced to come around. "I was watching some movie [with] a Sigur Ros piece and it kind of me hit over the head," she says.

Say What You Want About The Strokes, But...

Albert Hammond, Jr.'s solo album sounds like it's going to be damn delightful. Three new tracks are up on the MySpace. Admittedly, they do all kind of sound the same, but they're pretty addictive (Hey! Kind of like Strokes songs!), and I'm excited to hear the remaining tracks. Albert and his aftro are releasing the record in the U.K. on October 9th, so save up your quid, mate! That was so not funny.
