Kaki King Hits the Studio With Timbaland

Kaki King is bringing tiny back. You giant people don't know how to act.

But seriously. The pint-sized (5'1, folks) guitar-wielding virtuoso just wrapped two collaboration sessions with mega-producer/beatmaster Timbaland in his Miami studio for an as-yet-undecided project.

"He doesn't really work with a specific project in mind," King tells Spinner. "So, right now we're just making tracks. We've been starting at about midnight and staying in the studio until about 8 a.m., just being really creative. You can play something and he'll be like, 'No, I don't like that,' and it goes in the trash and you never hear it again. It's a little intimidating, but you can also really see why he is who he is and how he's been able to do all that he's done. "

King is quick to note that the two work with different goals in mind. Namely, "Tim," as she calls him, wants a hit.

Best Songs of 2007: No. 25

Throughout the year, through the indulgent magic of I Freakin' Love This Song, we here at Spinner (and artists like Patti Smith, Wayne Coyne and, well, Gene Simmons -- as well as our not-so-gentle readers) have shared our favorite sonic nuggets. Now we're taking this concept a little further to wrap up the year in music, one great freakin' song at a time.

'Earth Intruders,' Bjork

The Icelandic chanteuse returned from a tsunami-ravaged Indonesia in 2005 with a few bones to pick. And she brought friends: Timbaland and his industrial beat, and Congolese combo Konono No. 1 and their percussive genius. Carnage, mud graves, trenches -- Al Gore should've considered this as his musical call to arms.

West, Winehouse Lead 50th Annual Grammy Awards Nominees

Kanye West and Amy Winehouse lead this year's Grammy nominees it was announced Thursday morning, with the two racking up an impressive eight and six nominations, respectively.

The Chi-town rapper and British soul singer are both up for Album of the Year -- West for his 'Graduation,' and Winehouse for 'Back to Black' -- a category rounded out by fellow multi-nominees Foo Fighters for their 'Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace,' country veteran Vince Gill with his four-disc collection, 'These Days' and jazz legend Herbie Hancock, with his tribute to Joni Mitchell, 'River: The Joni Letters.'

Other multiple nominees include Jay-Z, Timbaland, Paul McCartney, Rihanna and T-Pain.

Winehouse, whose music stood to be eclipsed by her personal trials, also earned nods for Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year for her middle finger lush anthem, 'Rehab.'

"She makes Lindsay Lohan look cool," comedian and nomination announcer George Lopez said.
